Bright Futures Generator v2.0

In 2022, I made a simple tool based on a joke made in a Twitter conversation, which generated random matches between sectors and concepts, and new technologies — claiming these technologies would be the reason why the future of that industry will be bright. It was quite simple but a fun idea.

Since then, the platform I created it shut down and I didn’t have time to move that site somewhere else. But the website was both fun and also has some potential to become a useful tool to generate inspiration and provocation. Then I started thinking about how to further develop that idea and create something more than a joke. And since we’re living in the vibecoding era, I decided to open a new project in Google AI Studio and start playing around.

(A side note: I chose Google AI Studio over Claude Code mainly because I had some free credits and hosting space in my Google Workspace. It was simply a economic decision but I still got some additional help from Claude.)

Improvements and new features:

• It’s now has a much better design compared to the old one and performs better.

• List of sectors/concepts and technologies are expanded — and I will continue adding more. Feel free to send me recommendations.

• It now has a “Consult Why?” button. When you click, Gemini will generate a strategic argument, trying to explain why that random pair can make sense. Especially recommend you to try it when you get a really out of the box pairing.

• You can now share both the text and a special image version of the generated futures easily from the website so when you found a really interesting one, you can share it around.

Now that v2.0 is out there, I’m now thinking about how to improve it further to turn it into a helpful provocation tool. That’s why I want to hear your thoughts on the Bright Futures Generator.
